Ziploc Settles The Debate Over Whether To Reuse Their Plastic Bags

Do you reuse Ziploc bags? If it's a freezer bag that's still in good shape, I wash them and use them again. Assumed it was safe but now we know for sure...

Ziploc Settles The Debate Over Whether To Reuse Plastic Bags:

Settling the age-old debate once and for all about whether or not you can wash and reuse plastic zip-top storage bags, Ziploc says: Yes, you can safely wash and reuse their storage bags (and presumably other similar products as well). You just have to be sure to clean them properly with warm, soapy water and dry them completely.

There is one caveat, however: bags used to store raw meat, fish, eggs, or allergenic foods should be tossed. Dry goods are the best for reuse, while sticky or greasy foods may make bags difficult or impossible to clean.

For a more sustainable option, Ziploc suggests using silicone zip-top bags. Of course they recommend Ziploc brand Endurables silicone bags, which are dishwasher- and oven-safe up to 425°F.
